A is the smallest league. Usually a school with less than 800 or so people. These numbers were set by the Classification and League Organizing Committee in November 2015. Other enrollment databases: Enrollment numbers by school.

There’s a difference between the two. 4a is made up of the top athletes from each school, and 5a is made up of the top athletes from each district. So 5a has more kids in it.

The difference between 4a and 5a high schools is that the competition level is higher in 5a schools, meaning there will be more colleges and universities looking to recruit students from that school. There is no difference in curriculum or the amount of time spent on academics.

There are actually several differences between the two high schools. The biggest one is that an average of 30 students are accepted into 5a high schools while 4a high schools have about 10 students per class. This is one of the main reasons why 4a high schools are not as prestigious as 5a high schools.
