Well, if you’re not a mathematician then you might not have been able to solve this riddle. But luckily the answer is 25, because mr. smith had 4 daughters and each daughter had 4 brothers.

Mr. Smith has 8 kids: 4 daughters and 4 sons. The trick is that the daughters each have 4 brothers, so if you add up the sons and daughters, you get 8.
