 If It Takes 880 kJ to Vaporize a Sample of Liquid Oxygen, How Large Is the Sample? Blog Intro: This investigation was created as part of a science fair project in order to determine the size of a given sample of liquid oxygen. The investigation is based on the premise that one mole of any substance will release the same amount of energy when vaporized. The equation used in this experiment is:  E=nRT

This depends on the volume of the sample. The specific heat of oxygen is 0.955 J/g⋅K and the latent heat of vaporization is 880 kJ/mol.
