How to fix splintered wood on deck?

Lightly sand the area with rough sandpaper. Put a wood putty that is slightly darker than the wood into the hole, then use a putty knife to fuse the edges together. Let the area dry for 24 hours. Lightly sand the filled area with fine sandpaper.

So if you see shredded wood in any project, don't worry-a little putty and sandpaper and everything will be like new.

Using 80 grit sandpaper, move the sander back and forth along the grain direction. The idea here is to remove any sharp or protruding wood and blend the sanded area with the surrounding surface. If you work on the handrails, you may continue to use 100 grit sandpaper for 80 grit sanding.
