What does the error message "NTLDR is missing" mean? NTLDR is used by Windows XP, Vista and 7 to start the operating system. When it is missing or corrupted, you'll get the error message, "NTLDR is missing" or "NTLDR is missing, press Ctrl+alt+del to restart.

This has to be done from the recovery console, which is a special mode of Windows XP that you can only access by booting from the Windows CD. If you didn't make a Windows XP CD before you reinstalled it, you'll have to do the following: Boot your computer from the Windows XP CD.

The first thing you need to do is boot from the Windows installation disc. When you start your PC, keep pressing the “C” key to open the boot menu. Select the CD-ROM drive in the boot menu and then allow the system to boot from the Windows installation disc.

The best way to fix this is to use the Windows Recovery Environment, which is a special environment that allows you to use your PC when certain parts like the MBR or boot files are missing or damaged.
