There are a number of things to consider when it comes to fixing lag on your Wii U and TV. The most important thing to realise is that there's going to be an element of lag with a lot of devices, and that lag has a lot to do with the quality of the signal coming into your TV.

To fix lag on your TV, try connecting it directly to your Wii U using an HDMI cable instead of through your receiver. If you have an older TV, you may need to connect to your TV directly, but if your TV is newer, the lag will likely be solved by connecting it directly.

If you’re seeing a lot of lag on your TV and Wii U, try updating your Wii U firmware to the latest version. This might sound like a no-brainer, but it’s actually very important. Nintendo periodically updates the firmware to remove bugs and improve gameplay.

"Fix your Wii U Internet connection. To fix lag on your Wii U, first make sure that you are connected to the Internet. If you are having trouble connecting, try the following steps in order:

1) Make sure your Wii U is connected to the internet via your home Wi-Fi."

Just to be clear, what I’m talking about is the Wii U gamepad. Sometimes, when you’re playing a game, the gamepad will lag. This is especially noticeable when you’re playing a game that’s heavy on motion controls like Splatoon.
