Probable cause for the home button going dead on your iPhone 5 is the flex cable that connects the button to the motherboard. When you press the home button, it sends a signal to the motherboard to activate the display and unlock the phone.

The home button on my iPhone 5 is broken. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me I need to pay $150 to replace the whole front panel of the phone. I found an online repair shop that said they could fix it for $27. They mailed it to me and it took about a week and a half.

Fixing the iPhone 5 Home Button can be a real pain in the neck, but it's a fairly common problem on it's own.

If your iPhone 5 home button doesn’t work after changing your battery here’s how to fix it. First, try resetting your iPhone 5. To do this, press and hold the Home and Power buttons together for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. If you have a broken home button on your iPhone 5, there are a few things you can do to fix it.

First, you can try to clean it with a damp cloth and see if that works. If it doesn’t, you can remove the home button and do a small amount of repair work on it.
