If you're getting this error, try creating a project.json file in your project directory. The easiest way to do this is to run the dotnet new command: dotnet new -- project .  This will create a file for you with placeholders where you can insert the dependencies you want to use in your project.

One of the first things you should do is check that your code follows all the style guidelines. If your code doesn’t match the style guidelines then it won’t compile and Visual Studio will let you know that your code is invalid.
