First use 24 grit sandpaper to remove the paint inside and around the dent, then change to 80 grit sandpaper, and then sand the entire dent by hand. Use the same sandpaper to grind and apply the paint around the edges of the dent. Clean the entire area with wax remover and a clean cloth.

It's not hard to fix a ding without even having to break the paint. The first thing you want to do is get a hair dryer, preferably one with a nozzle, and turn it on to warm the area. Then, take a bag of ice and keep it on the ding until the ice melts.
