If you have a large hole in your wood paneling, it’s best to fill it with a wood filler that’s made specifically for large holes in wood.

Use a putty, spackling, or mudding knife -- or a flat-edged piece of wood if you don't have any of these -- to relatively smooth the surface, then sand flat, prime and paint as necessary.Epoxy wood filler for large holes is easy to use because it is pliant and easy to handle. You mix it like a dough and mold it like clay even after it dries. When it hardens, you can carve it just like any wood. Two-part epoxy is best for repairing door jambs, moldings, window sills, wood trim, and baseboard.
