The bladder is a muscle that can stretch to hold a lot of liquid. The amount of water you drink will determine how often you have to pee. When you start drinking water, you may need to pee more often at first, but your bladder will stretch and hold more liquid as you continue to drink more water.

Urination frequency is dependent upon several factors including how much water you drink, your age, your general health, and if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. “Normal” urination frequency is often considered to be about six to eight times a day but you should urinate at least once every two waking hours.

If you’re drinking a lot of water, then you should pee a lot. The Institute of Medicine, which is a part of the National Academy of Sciences, recommends that men consume about 3.7 liters of water a day and women consume about 2.7 liters of water a day.
