The LG washer error code CL may render your LG washing machine useless mainly if you have never come across it, and you don’t know how to clear it. This is because it locks every operating button except the power button such that you can’t use it. This feature is, however, not an error, but an integrated mechanism to ensure that no one alters your set washing mode from the beginning to the end. It bars children from interfering with the set programs, such as switching off the machine and even breaking the washer. You can recognize the error code CL by the mark of a toddler’s face or a smile and a lock. Different washing machines’ locking system operates in different ways but achieves the same results.
Why would the error code CL appear?
While using the machine, you or your child may accidentally switch on the child-lock button, thus sending error code on display. Another case happens when a user loads the washing machine and sets the lock once, and the system uses the same child-lock installations for future applications. Thus, the error code won’t go off even if you unplug the washer from power. It will always pop up on the display immediately the machine is put to life. It is, therefore, essential to know how to unlock different washing machines.
Different key combinations for clearing the error code CL
Pressing the lock button
By pressing the lock button for 3 to 5 seconds, you will be able clear the error code CL in the latest LG front load washing machines.
Prewash/ child lock
Holding the prewash/ child-lock button for 3 to 5 seconds will clear the error code in some categories of the newer front load LG washers. This is inclusive of LG washers with smart drum, inverter and direct drive among others.
Temp and options keys
This method applies to LG washers without a child lock button. To clear the error code CL, you have to press and hold the temp and options keys simultaneously for 3 to 5 seconds.
Wash and rinse keys
Pressing the wash and clean buttons at the same time and holding them for around 5 seconds clears the error code CL for some washers without the child-lock button and cannot use the temp and options key combination.
There are, however, cases where using the key combination won’t clear the error code, and thus you can’t use it. This indicates that the machine has another serious problem, and hence you need to disassemble the machine to test every individual component of the machine using the multimeter.
