The process of chromosomal transfer can take place in as little as 6 hours to as long as 72 hours, depending on the yeast strain and the temperature of the culture.

It depends on the rate of growth of the bacteria. A typical bacterial generation time is 20 minutes to 2 hours. Thus, if the hfr strain grows fast, the transfer can be completed in a few hours. However, if the hfr strain grows slowly, it may take a few days to transfer the entire chromosome.

The amount of time it takes for an hfr strain to transfer its entire chromosome depends on the strain and the conditions used.

The transfer of DNA from one cell to another is called transformation and the time it takes is dependent on the growth phase of the receiving cells. In the case of Haemophilus, the act of transformation has been observed to occur within 4 hours.
